This piece is part of the artist collaboration "Folklore Bestiary" hosted by the Hellfire Sculpting Club.
The Topic was to create a bust based on a folklore creature based on the birth country. I picked the Kielkropf.
The Kielkropf is a changeling and is described as deformed child based on hellish or demonic influences. I liked the contrast of known and unknown shapes. The Baby side on the one side should trigger empathy and the twisted side is a great contrast compared to the clean human face.
Furthermore, the context is important because folklore is an old medium to deal with fears and unknown topics. Disabilities are part of our human nature and because of missing reconnaissance and acceptance (Now and back when this mythos came up) a lot of people are still seeing disabilities as a bad thing. That’s the reason I made my two Kielkropf sides appealing and loveable.
Feel free to take a look at the other folklore busts too!
